You may be wondering why I sometimes speak of The Entranced in the third person, or why I call myself that. That’s why I decided to write a post about the ideas behind it and what I try to express with it.
The name is deducted from how I experience trance music. I’m quite sensitive to my environment, when people around me are depressed, they drag me down with them. Put me in hall filled with happy partying trance fans and some uplifting trance that nicely builds up to a climax, then I’m in heaven!
Listening to music can make me see things differently. For example, when I’m down and feel like giving up, listening to Bon Jovi picks me up again and makes me feel strong enough to hold on. Songs like “Keep the faith” really express that feeling and I absorb it like a spunge!
Happy pop music is nice too, but it can only improve my mood when it’s already good to begin with. Trance, especially the uplifting kind, takes things further. It’s got a lot more emotions with it’s ups and downs and really moves me, makes me forget everything and just live the music. It’s a little like being in another world, a much better, almost magical world. Entranced is the best way for me to decribe the way it makes me feel.
With the music I make under the name The Entranced, it’s my goal to express this feeling. It’s got to have emotions and be intense. It can be dark or sad, but in the end it should always send out a positive vibe. If an idea for a song doesn’t match this main goal, I don’t use it for The Entranced, no matter how much I love it.
The Entranced is not just an artist name for me, it’s the philosophy behind the music I make under this name.
Maybe you recognize what I just described here in how you experience (trance) music, or maybe music affects you in a different way and you’d like to share it! In that case, use the comment section below. I’d love to hear your thoughts, and if you’re a musician, what you want to express or accomplish with your music (include a link to your artist website or profile on your comment).
